Uncovering Your Deep Core Values
In a world that constantly asks us to be more, do more, and prove our worth through external measures, returning to our deepest core values is one of the most profound building blocks of spiritual empowerment we can offer ourselves. These inner truths act as soul-compasses—guiding us back to alignment, authenticity, and our personal power.
But what are core values, really?
They’re not just lofty ideals or nice words to put on a vision board. At their essence, deep core values are the living truths that shape how we thrive when we’re fully connected to our soul and spirit. They reflect what truly matters to us beyond ego, conditioning, or the need to be accepted. They should govern every intention, decision, choice and action that we move towards.
And when we intentionally reconnect with our core values, we begin to live from the inside out—no longer seeking validation or clarity from the noise around us, but trusting the knowing within.
Why Core Values Are More Than Just a Self-Help Exercise
Many of us have done values exercises in corporate trainings, coaching sessions, or journaling workshops. But often, they stay at surface level—a list of words that sound good, rather than the ones that feel deeply true.
When we approach core values with the intention of spiritual practice and connection, rather than goals or nice-to-haves, they become something much deeper.
They become:
🔥 Anchors in times of change
💎 Mirrors for personal truth
🌱 Soil for empowered decision-making
🕊 Reminders of our soul’s essence
🌙 Portals for healing, purpose, and expansion
This is especially powerful when you’re navigating a transition, healing from burnout, reclaiming your voice, or reimagining the next chapter of your life. Your values aren’t just about what you believe—they are reflections of who you are becoming.
The Empowering Energy of Values-Led Living
When we live in alignment with our true values, we feel less fragmented and more whole. We no longer waste energy bending ourselves into roles or expectations that don’t fit. We trust our yeses and our no’s. We make choices that nourish our nervous system, our relationships, our creative expression, and our spirit.
This kind of values-led living becomes a daily act of spiritual self-trust. Even when the path is unclear or unconventional, we walk it knowing we’re rooted in something real.
And this is where empowerment lives:
🌿 In the quiet courage to be led by your truth.
🔥 In the power of living a life that feels like it belongs to you.
A Soul-Centered Reflection Practice
Here’s a gentle, heart-opening practice to explore your own deep core values:
1. Create sacred intention. Light a candle, play soft music, or sit in nature. Ground yourself in your body and take a few deep breaths.
2. Ask your heart:
When do I feel most alive?
What am I always drawn back to, no matter the season of life?
What breaks my heart open? What brings me home to myself?
3. List the values that emerge. Don’t overthink—feel into the words that carry energy for you. You might write words like freedom, connection, integrity, creativity, grace, sovereignty, joy, depth, or truth.
My own core values are: Creativity, Home Sanctuary, Deep Truth, Connection, Freedom, Integrity, and Curiosity, but yours may be different.
4. Choose up to 7 that feel the most resonant for you. These should be your soul-level values—that feel like your inner compass. Think about all areas of your life and make sure your values cover all areas for a holistic approach - for example, consider what's important to you across home & family, friends, work & purpose, creativity, health, money and abundance, love, etc.
5. Reflect on how you can honour them more deeply in your everyday life. Let them guide your choices, your boundaries, your rituals, your relationships, and your self-expression. I am still committed to developing more practices of my own that help me align my core values with my everyday life. It’s a work in progress and a long-term commitment, but it feels empowering having something tangible to work towards because I’m clear on my core values.
Bring Your Values to Life: Create a Values-Based Visual Soul Map
Now that you’ve uncovered your deep core values, it’s time to give them form—through imagery, color, and intuitive design. Creating a visual soul map is a powerful spiritual tool that helps anchor your values in your subconscious and infuse your daily life with intention.
Here’s how to begin:
✨ Gather your materials: Magazines, scissors, glue, markers, textured paper, photos, quotes, natural objects—whatever calls to you. Or do a digital version in Canva or a similar tool.
✨ Create with intuition: Choose images and words that feel like your values. For example, if one of your values is freedom, you might be drawn to wide open skies, flowing rivers, or wild horses. Let your intuition guide your selections—this isn’t about perfection; it’s about resonance.
✨ Arrange your board as a Visual Soul Map:
You might divide it into sections (one for each value), or
Let it evolve organically with textures, symbols, and flow
Add your handwritten affirmations or mantras connected to your values
✨ Place it somewhere sacred: Let it live in a favourite place, your creative space, or your journal. Revisit it often. Let it remind you of the life you’re consciously choosing.
This practice turns your values from ideas into art—into something embodied, alive, and soul-nourishing. It becomes a visual declaration of your empowered, spirit-led life.
Values as a Spiritual Homecoming
Living by your deep core values is not about perfection—it’s about integrity. It’s about choosing to come home to yourself again and again, especially when life feels uncertain or noisy. It’s an empowered stance of wholeness, of remembering that you are allowed to live in a way that feels deeply true.
When you root into your values and bring them to life through both reflection and creativity, you reclaim your energy, your voice, and your power—not from the outside world, but from the wellspring of your own soul.
And that is where your truest magic lives.
I’ll leave you with these powerful questions to ponder:
If I fully lived in alignment with my deepest core values, what would I let go of—and what would I finally give myself permission to become?
I’d love to hear what comes up for you.
Take care,
Sam x
